Taylor Street Creative Space
Taylor Street Creative Space was a community creative and maker space in the heart of Annandale. We ran workshops and provided resources and tools for projects covering a wide range of different hobbies and interests.
From sewing, costume making, and knitting to electronics, robotics, 3D printing, and laser cutting to sticker making, toy hacking, repair, upcycling and craft, our members worked on some amazing projects!
In particular, the repair service was very popular and it was a joy to be able to save things from landfill, give new life to old appliances or gadgets, and restore some well-loved and treasured items.
The space
The space had four main areas / rooms:
- Sewing & craft and workshop space: a huge craft table, sewing machines, fabric & patterns, craft supplies and equipment.
- Digital fabrication: 3d printing & laser cutting, vinyl cutting, materials and tools.
- Coworking & community: guest PCs and desk space, project storage, printing & scanning.
- Electronics & repair: a fully-stocked electronics workbench and repair tools (microscopes, test equipment, spare parts).
History
Taylor Street Creative Space was founded in late 2024 by Jim Mussared, an Inner West local and father-of-three with a lifelong passion for tinkering, making, and technology.
Jim has studied computer science, physics, and mathematics, and worked in a diverse range of roles including software engineering, operations, robotics, education, and electronics. With a long involvement as a tutor and lecturer with the National Computer Science School, and years spent working in education technology, he is passionate about teaching and sharing his knowledge and experience with others.
We worked on some small projects while setting up the space, and then Taylor Street officially opened its doors to members in July 2025.
Unfortunately, due to a combination of factors, we made the difficult decision to close in late 2026. Our thanks to every one of the members, workshop hosts, volunteers, and visitors who made the space what it was! Taylor Street was always an experiment to see what we could achieve, and although the result wasn't successful, we're so glad we tried.
